This Ramadan season, it’s important for us all to think about worldwide hunger. After all, an important Ramadan tradition is fasting, which is abstaining from eating and drinking. But refraining from eating and drinking will make anyone realize what it means to be hungry, how it feels and drains the human spirit both mentally and physically. And, unfortunately, that’s exactly what millions of Africans are currently experiencing.
Sub-Saharan Africa still has the highest number of undernourished people, with 22% of the population, which is expected to increase to 29.4% by 2030. As a result, five million African children die of hunger every single year. Causing factors are often intertwined and range from extreme poverty, conflict within specific countries, extreme climate and weather conditions, lack of access to clean, sanitary water, lack of investment in agriculture, and unstable markets.
Since 2013, Embrace Relief has distributed hundreds of food packages to Tanzania and thousands of food packages to Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, Mali, and Burkina Faso. But there are still so many more Africans who need help. In the spirit of Ramadan 2021, please consider donating to help us supply and deliver more packages, which cost $25 each. To struggling Africans, it’s more than a food package. It’s a symbol of hope for a better future, a priceless gift with the power to change lives, and we at Embrace Relief thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, understanding, and generosity.
